Opening 8.3db locally

Sorry if this is an FAQ but we have recently upgraded from 8.3 to 9 but need access to our pre upgraded database. I don't want to have to install 8.3 on our new server and was wondering if it is possible to change my .pf file to allow me to open the old 8.3 db using a path rather than a host/service.

Any help woyuld be much appreciated

No, the only way to connect from a V9 client to a V8 db is through -H -S (client/server) also on the same machine.
