Progress Explorer

Hello all,

I'm running some tests on a test system that I have set up to mirror our production 9.1C database. What I'm trying to do is figure out is what purpose Progress Explorer serves beyond starting the database. I have a lot of experience with SQL Server and it's management console which has the capability to perform various tasks on the database (i.e. backups, database creation and so on). As far as I can see the only real use of the Progress Explorer tool is to start and stop the database, is this correct? If so then why not just stick to using Procontrol?

Thanks,

Pete J.

Progress Explorer does also allow you to monitor your Appservers (and a bit more under OpenEdge).

You can view the current activity on your appservers, and add or remove appservers as appropriate.

You can also tune any of the database parameters without bringing the database down.

OK - that last sentence is not true. But I don't see why it can't be true!

Hey,

Thanks for the tips. Like I said I was trying to figure this out, at least now I have a direction to go it.

Thanks again,
