Currently, OpenEdge Replication requires that the enhanced logging settings be added to the $DLC/pmmgr.properties file. The pmmgr.properties file is only read during database startup, meaning that a database bounce is required and that it needs to be enabled non-stop during normal operation while waiting for the issue to occur. This is not practical and can cause very large log files and a performance penalty and is too high a risk to a production environment. Restarting the database may also cause the problem that you are trying to capture to disappear and the debugging opportunity is lost. This request is for replication enhanced logging to be improved so that it can be enabled or disabled on the fly, or as a minimum during the replication server startup. Although, that doesn't help how it can be enabled for the target database without bouncing it. This request is currently logged as RTC Initiative 143044.
