Progress ver 9.1D9020-restricted

We have a progress DB ver 9.1D9020 running in support of a Vantage by Epicor Manufacturing Business System.
I was working thru the Progress 4GL Tutorials and discovered that my version of Progress does not allow me to alter any databases from the Pprogress tools, not even the sample 'db' supplied with the tutorial.
Also, my Procedure Editor does not have Intelligent Editing enabled, and has no option for it.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Sounds like a runtime license rather than a development license.

Run "showcfg" to see what you've got. UNIX: $DLC/bin/showcfg Windows: start-> prograns-> progress -> config.

although you, probably, do not have a development license there are some things you still can do.

you can access the data dictionary, dump and load data definition files and manage database schema and security.

have a look at kb p3299 "How to access Data Administration and/ or Dictionary Dictionary with Runtime or Database Only License".

i wrote a small application that let's you run short 4gl limited administration scripts without a development license i called admin script.

heres the link and another follow up thread -

i also posted a short csv dump script. note that you can also perform binary dump and loads without a development license.

there's also a sql connection but you might run into a few troubles with an older version.

and theres a time limited but full development version and product tour you can download and play around with @psdn.com

PDECODE has just released a new Progress viewer and editor.

Very small, about ~40k and very quick to load, just pops up.

Runs separate from the Progress environment and has no license and Progress dependencies.

Looks great ! check it out :)
