Salesforce Lightning Connect adds OData compatibility to the award-winning CRM platform.

Progress® DataDirect Cloud® is a powerful data connectivity service that provides a single point of universal data connectivity for all your data sources—wherever they are. But that’s just scratching the surface. The truth is, there are many applications for this high-performance connectivity service. Too many for just one blog post! That’s why over the next few weeks, I’ll be bringing you a series of posts highlighting a few of the most common use cases we have found for DataDirect Cloud, starting with the exciting connectivity to Salesforce we offer through the OData protocol.

Lightning Fast Salesforce Connectivity

With less than two months left until Dreamforce 2015, the Progress DataDirect office is buzzing with excitement about all the new features and functionality that has been coming to Salesforce recently. One of these features that I am particularly excited about is Salesforce Lightning Connect, which adds OData compatibility to the award-winning CRM platform.

With Lightning Connect, Salesforce admins and developers are able to gain real-time access to their back-office data directly through Salesforce. That’s as long as your data source provides an OData endpoint, of course.

Speaking the Same Language

You can also extend the value of Lightning Connect with DataDirect Cloud. DataDirect Cloud is able to connect to a huge variety of data sources and expose them as an OData endpoint which can then be used to gain access to your data from within Salesforce. Think of it as a universal translator—with DataDirect Cloud in the mix, your backend can talk to Salesforce in its own language. The whole process is done with a visual interface, with no need for complicated coding. It just works; even if you have to traverse a firewall. The on-premise connector allows you to get access without any need for reconfiguration.

It’s incredibly easy to set up, too. Our Chief Data Evangelist Sumit Sarkar even managed to get a POC together in less than four hours over six days.
