And now for the details!

WS 201: OERA in Practice; NSRA -- A Practical Introduction to Development with a fully functional, OERA Compliant, OO Framework Time: Sunday, June 5, 1:30 p.m.
Presenter: David Nicolás Abdala, TI Project Leader, NómadeSoft S.R.L., Argentina Audience: Developers and architects working on migration of legacy programs and OO modernization There is a lot of talk about OERA principles and best practices, but it's hard to get an idea of the way an OERA compliant implementation will look or how it will behave. Besides, there are a million ways of implementing OERA principles.

In this workshop you will write code for the Sports2000 database using NSRA framework, a fully funcional OERA implementation for the development of Service Oriented Applications (SOA) using OOABL and XUL. You?ll get valuable understanding regardless of your level of OO knowledge (from ABL programmers with no OO knowledge through OOABL gurus willing to suffer).

After a short introduction to the framework principles, you'll have the chance to do real work by following the provided exercises. The exercises have been designed with varying complexity; they're well suited for everyone.

Participants will receive the development version of the NSRA framework and the exercises used in the workshop.

WS 202: Analysis of Existing ABL Code Time: Sunday, June 5, 1:30 p.m.
Presenter: Dr. Thomas Mercer-Hursh, VP Technology, Computing Integrity, USA Audience: Developers and architects working with or designing program modifications in ABL Many ABL systems have their origins many years ago. Most have received many layers of modification, typically resulting in complex and poorly structured systems. Modifying or extending such systems can often be extremely difficult. Good analysis is needed to avoid unintended collateral damage from changes and to decide where to make changes in the first place. Good analysis is also the first step in transformation, since one must know what is there before deciding how to replace it. In this workshop, we will explore a variety of analytic tools, evaluate their utility and limitations, and become introduced to their use "hands on". Tools will include XREF, OE Architect, Search Tools, ProLint, Proparse, Analyst, and ABL2UML.

ProLint, Proparse, and ABL2UML are free open source tools and can be downloaded after the workshop.

WS 204: Getting Started With Embedded Windows -- A Practical Iintroduction to WinKitLE Time: Sunday, June 5, 1:30 p.m.
Presenters: Mike Fechner, Director, Consultingwerk and Marko Rüterbories, Consultingwerk, Germany Audience: Programmers interested in .NET In this 3 hour workshop Mike Fechner and Marko Rüterbories from Consultingwerk will focus on Progress' GUI for .NET and it's compatibility features to enhance the visual appearance of existing OpenEdge GUI applications. Embedded Windows are a perfect way to integrate GUI screens into .NET WinForms based screens. After covering the basics of embedded windows and compatibility between ABL windows and .NET Forms in the Progress client runtime the participants of the workshop will receive an introduction to WinKitLE. This toolkit is based on the popular WinKit that Consultingwerk has successfully used with a large number of Progress partners to enhance the appearance of existing Progress applications using GUI for .NET.

Participants will receive a copy of the source code of the WinKitLE and the samples as well as the documentation.

WS 205: Progress Database Performance Tuning Time: Sunday, June 5, 1:30 p.m.
Presenters:
Adam Backman, President, White Star Software, LLC; USA Tom Bascom, President, DBAppraise, LLC, USA Dan Foreman, , BravePoint Inc., USA Paul Koufalis, Progresswiz Consulting, Canada Audience: DBAs and System Administrators Whether you are a new Progress DBA, a System Administrator tasked with supporting this unheard of "Progress" database or an old hand looking for the latest angle, you will learn something that you did not know about Progress Database Performance Tuning through this series of hands-on labs provided by some of the world's best known Progress experts. You will learn about the key components and variables in Progress based systems and learn how they interact to provide the best possible performance for your system!
