-vs parameter

Hi all,

SUN-Solaris/V9.105A

It seems our backup-files are getting bigger than 2GB, so I was testing the -vs parameter on a test.db. The test db itself was 866 MB And after
probkup online test.db test.bck -vs 24000, (blocksize=8) I got 5 bck-files all together 866 MB big!! (And if I backup normally I only get one bck-file approx. 400 MB big.) I'm very curious how this is possible and why there is no compression. When I backup our normal database of let's say 5GB I rather have 2 bck-files of 4 GB compressed than 5 bck-files of 2GB each with lots of space in it...

And after making these bck-blocks how do you restore these? I couldn't find anything in the documentation about it. Does it go automatically or what ?

TIA,
Jan Wiggerman
