Progress Engines

i think most of thE databases are using one engine...but progress database is using two engines SQL92 AND 4GL.WHY?

Because Progress supports two languages. 4GL and SQL.

Actually the Progress architecture has several layers that are sometimes referred to as "engines". For instance, the "storage engine" (aka "rocket") sits below the language engines and is shared by them.
