I use smtpmail for all most all my programming, both in a unix and windows eviroment. You can also used OutLook, but there are drawbacks. One major word about smtpmail, there is no backup if the email fails. To get around this I worte a procedure to check if the smtp server was up and if not, save all the information as well as the attachement for when the smtp server came backup .
