8.3 Database Backup

We have a Progress 8.3 running on an HP-UX 11.0 N4000. There is another box that is used for reporting as well. Currently we do cold backups each night into a separate filessytem on the production box, it is mounted on the reporting box and then we create a reporting instance from that nightly backup. We have just now deployed a EMC CX500 SAN with Snapclones. What we would like to do is create some better way of backingup the database to allow the use of snapclones and limited downtime. I am not sure were to begin so any pointing in the right direction would be helpful. thanks
