Job Title: Senior Systems Analyst
Job overview

The Senior Systems Analyst will support the computer operations and maintain the efficient operation of all system processes by designing and implementing technical applications and advising on hardware and software purchases.

Reports to: Director of Information Services
Duties and responsibilities

· Design, develop, document, implement, and maintain mission critical business applications
· Create functional specifications including defining requirements for a systems solution.
· Produce detail design documents and develop programming specifications and data definitions.
· Code applications programs, prepare, test, and cycle through verification of expected results.
· Conduct quality control tests to insure integrity, reliability, and validity.
· Maintain Progress database
· Maintain Unix environment
· Assist support personnel with end-user problem resolution.
· Manages the deployment of appropriate security patches, hot fixes, and software updates
· Keeps up to date with current trends and is prepared to make recommendations
· Produces support documentation
  • Performs all backups according to a regular schedule
  • Recovers data from backups as needed
  • Manages database storage and plans for future capacity
  • Translates client requirements into specified project briefs
  • Analyzes current and future technology needs
  • Identifies options for potential solutions and assesses them for both technical and business suitability
  • Works out feasible solutions, costs them, and produces outline designs of the new systems to be built
  • Programming and development work as assigned
· Manages the overall work plan to ensure work is assigned and completed on time and within budget
  • Other duties as assigned


Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Ability to evaluate critical systems, prioritize work, and determine solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Ability to interact with and manage members of cross-functional teams
· Strong organizational and personal discipline skills
· Ability to interpret data and disperse information to others
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and policies
  • A working knowledge of Progress RDB and Microsoft SQL Server architecture and related utilities
  • A working knowledge of IBM AIX architecture and platform
  • A working knowledge of IBM AS400 architecture and platform is a plus
  • Experience with Cognos or Corvu desired

Credentials and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management of Information Systems, or a related degree, or equivalent education and work experience
  • 3-5 years experience actively programming in Progress 4GL
