The Progress DataDirect team was excited to sponsor, attend, and converse about connectivity with the data community at the Tableau Conference in Las Vegas this month.
Tableau has been holding its annual conference for more than a decade. More than 18,000 attended this year’s event, dubbed TC19 (hashtag #data19), at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. After four days, three keynotes, thousands of data “rock stars,” and an amazing #DataNightOut, all 18,000 seemed delighted with their opportunity to meet other Tableau users from around the world who were there to see and understand data.
Topics like AI, mapping, and data skills were on the agenda every time we spoke with a Tableau employee (“Tabloid”), a customer, a community member, or a conference speaker. It was particularly rewarding to discuss how DataDirect has become the trusted vendor for more than 350 ISVs and more than 10,000 enterprises for all of their analytics, integration and data management needs.
Naturally, all of this got summarized in the keynote presentation by Tableau’s CEO, Adam Selipsky. In the first conference since Tableau’s acquisition by Salesforce, he chatted not just about data, but the human things the company is doing, like its partnership with Splash to provide clean water to children in two of the world’s largest cities. But Adam also sat with Salesforce chairman, founder, and co-CEO, Marc Benioff. Together, they reviewed their customer-centric vision for the future of Tableau. Unsurprisingly, it’s more innovation and continued focus on the mission to help people see and understand data.
But you couldn’t be anywhere in the Mandalay conference facility without making a connection. One cool way of doing that was at #data19’s Data Village, where people introduced themselves and connected through an interactive viz literally made of yarn, and thoughts were shared in the Databrain bubbles.
At our Progress booth, we had the opportunity to introduce our connectivity know-how to the Tableau community, discussing the advantages of on-premises connectivity and open analytics. Visitors to the booth walked away with the Progress 2018 Data Connectivity Annual Report, the Autonomous REST Connector data sheet and a whitepaper laying out our solution for connecting any application to any REST API quickly and without coding, so that it’s all about the data and not the code.
The Progress DataDirect Autonomous Rest Connector solution turned out to be the focus of our in-depth conversations with attendees.
