Pro 2

Just a quick query but if we already have replication to 2 other Openedge servers do we need Pro 2 as well? Most of our reporting is done locally but we also need to send some of the data to our Head Office.

Cheers

OpenEdge Replication is for disaster recovery.

Pro2 is for heterogeneous replication of an OpenEdge database to an Oracle, SQL Server, or OpenEdge database. It can replicate only the tables you choose, and the tables' schemas don't have to match on source and target. If that matches your needs then Pro2 could work for you.

"send some of the data" _could_ be a use for Pro2. Or it could just be a straight-forward periodic data extract written the old fashioned way.

Thanks for the quick reply folks, we currently run a data extract routine written in house which requires 'conversion' to the Catalyst format required by our HO prior to sending the data, is Pro2 just a direct mapping or could we reformat etc

You can pretty much do anything in the target database for Pro 2. The schema doesn't have to match, you can merge/split data, etc. etc. So Pro 2 could be taught to convert the data into a SQL/OE database structure that would suit your transfer more.
