I don't understand why this doesn't work

Okay, I'm still new to Progress but I've got 20+ years in programming.
I've got a program that selects a record from a set of records, then cycles through another set of records in a table subordinate to the first table. When I'm finished with that cycle I want to come back and check through the second set again to see if I've got clearance to then update the record from the first set. Then update the record from the first set if it's okay.
The problem is that I can't get the update of the record from the first set to work. I'm not getting any error messages, but nothing happens. It's like the program code is being ignored.
I know this has to do with my not understanding how Progress is functioning in the background. Can someone enlighten me, please? My logic would be fine in a number of other languages I've worked with in the past.
Any help is very much appreciated.

Would it be possible for you to either post the code to the board or e-mail the code to me that you are having trouble with so that I can take a look?
