+1 I wouldn't get too excited about more complex configuration of the SAN. Even if they temporarily exist on the SAN, just copy the AI's offsite immediately (easily done via scripting). Then to recover your database you just need a recent backup plus the offsite AI's and roll forward. Performance gains from application of Moore's Law somewhat offset historical performance reasons for paying close attention to how exactly you layout out your filesystems. (Not discounting the words of the wise who have already answered). If you are interested in recovery of a DB after your SAN (or in fact any drive) fails then make sure the AI's are reliably copied somewhere else and that you have a good backup. You will need ALL the subsequent AI files.
