is there anything special that you have to do to connect to a served db through a network, when the client is an NT workstation and the served db is on an NT workstation? I am able to do this from pc A to pc B, but when i serve the db on pc B and try to connect from PC a, it wont work. i get the 1432, cant connect error. all my services and hosts files are correct and its serving the db correctly. through a series of telnet troubleshooting commands, i have determined that
i have a firewall or some other device that is not propagating the connection on that specific TCP/IP port (for instance a Proxy client). I tried other port numbers to see if i could get "any" port to work...and i cant. i can ping the serving machine from the client. and i can telnet to the service while on the serving machine, using localhost as the ip. is there some kind of network 'thing' that needs to be set up to allow other nodes to access your services??????
