Hi,
We have a customer that has a long retention (7 years) requirement for the QAD application using Progress OpenEdge 4GL database on AIX platform.
We could have used the "Data Protector for Progress OpenEdge 4GL using IBM Tivoli Storage Manager"
But on other customers we have a more neutral...
So there is no need to set the Progress OpenEdge databases in a certain mode before the snapshot is executed?
For example in DB2 you have to perform a Quisce, in Oracle "begin/end" backup; in PostgreSQL "start/end" backup, and in MySQL there are similare ways.
Are you really sure that this will...
Incremental backup is more efficient to restore data than using transaction logs (after images) in general.
The main reason for this is that:
- incremental backups stores just changed blocks
While transaction logs stores information about how all the blocks become changed.
- It can be the same...
Hi Tom,
Thanks for replying.
The Product uses native supported Progress way to backup and restore the databases.
But instead of storing the data to a local disk, all the data is sent directly to the backup system.
An example of how this can improve the backup and especially restore / recovery...
Hi,
To shorten the backup window for your application, than it might be better to send the backup directly to TSM instead of:
1. backup to local disk
2. Perform a TSM backup on local disk to TSM Server
Data Protector for Progress OpenEdge 4GL using IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, might be usefull...
Agree,
Even if you have native SQL ASCI format of the database, there could still be BLOBS or similare information inside the database with different Endian inforrmation.
So you have to validate this before.
We did similare conversation on anthoer database from Windows to Linux, but on that...
If you want this to be automated, than you can have a look at "Data Protector for Progress OpenEdge 4GL using IBM Tivoli Storage Manager".
With this solution you can do Full / Incremental / After-Image (log) backups directly to TSM.
The restore is just "one click away", a oneliner in command...
Data Protector for Progress OpenEdge 4GL using IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, can help to protect the databases from logical or physical errors.
This in combination with Progress protections (replication) makes the solution even better.
Hi,
I have now installed a new OpenEdge 10.x on a new machine, but the problem remains.
I even got an evaluation license for it.
Here is what I did:
# download/proinst
# proenv
# cd $DLC
# mkdir /tmp/try
# cp sports* /tmp/try
# cd /tmp/try
# proserve sports
( I guess that I can't use pro...
Thanks,
It could be a developer license, I might be using wrong terminology.
And I got it from Progress.
I will try to get a new try license.
Regards Tomas
