When would be possible to add new Extension Files into OE 102B02 ONLINE database?

Hi,

Does someones knows if it is possible to add new extension data files in an ONLINE database?


Open Edge 102B02 64 bits. Operation System: Redhat 5

It is possible to add new extents online since, I guess OE10.1c - for sure it is possible in OE10.1c.

See the documentation for the prostrct addonline command. There are some restrictions which might apply when process connected to the database won't have access permitted on the OS level to the newly added extents. AFAIK, this would apply to clients connecting via shared memory and _NOT_ TCP (remote).

That is correct, remote clients are not involved -- the server process that handles them is though. The big issue is that file permissions have to be set such that existing connections can access the new extents. In some highly restricted environments you may have problems with that. It's a trade-off. You have to decide which is more important.

The addonline feature has been around for a while, I think at least since 10.1A, maybe back to 10.0.

Or you could go with all variable extents and not worry about adding extents.
