When -rereadnolock is on, a no-lock record find usually rereads the record from the database. When you use a ROWID to find the record though, this doesn't happen. It is well documented in the KB etc, but it is problematic. Using a ROWID to find a record is the best way to do so according to best practise, but then you find you don't necessarily have the latest values and you have to perform a workaround in order to ensure it's actually current. Surely this is very behind the times?
