    Thinking about what you said about a real-world examples and I could do a data-logging of sensors which would periodically capture data a post the data to a WebServer which would then be committed to progress database.

    However what I can build is for a server side process which would capture database / AppServer metrics and then using the MQTT messages service publish the metric data to an ESP8266 micro-controller with a 20x4 LCD matrix display.

    Would love to see a session like that at a PUG conference. I reckon you'd pull a good audience. We're all geeks at heart.
