Hi All,

Progress 9.1E
Redhat Linux 4.0

I have a few doubts on Fathom replication :

a. Should the ai be variables or fixed

b. How many agents should be configured for a database size of 20 GB.

c. I tried testing on sports database, the replication takes place only
after shutting down both source & target databases.
Iam sure it does not require to shutdown databases to synchronise.
What is the frequency of updation of target database from source
database? Is there any way to control the frequency of updation of
target database.

Thanks In advance.

IMHO you should use variable extents unless you have a very high activity database and you have tested both and you have a provable case where fixed length extents make a significant difference in some meaningful metric -- meaningful metrics being those that matter to users like TRX response time. (Not some arbitrary metric selected from PROMON et al that doesn't actually affect anything.)

What do you mean "how many agents"? You have no choice. There is just one.

Replication is very near real-time. No shutdown is required. It does, however, help to actually have some transactions occurring to test with. It is difficult to test with "sports" unless you create some sort of load simulator.
