Responsibilities

*Creates a bridge between the customer’s requirements and Progress technology and solutions, clearly articulating and helping the customer understand how Progress products and proposed solutions meet customer needs, address customer pain, and add value and growth potential to the customer’s business.
*Understanding the customer’s business, market plan, application, and current pain, and having a thorough knowledge of both Progress and non-Progress technologies, convinces the customer that applying and implementing a Progress-based solution provides the quickest and lowest cost of ownership, as well as the best application architecture vision and roadmap to move from present state to desired state while best leveraging the customer’s offerings.
* Provides high-level and special technical consultancy, advice, and support to the Sales team at all stages of the sales cycle.
* Provides the support needed for the closing of a sale and provides some limited assistance to ensure a smooth solution implementation.
* Supports the Sales team in achieving its revenue targets.

* At customer sites, seminars, trades shows, exhibitions, and conferences, delivers presentations on the commercial and technical aspects of Progress Software and of our product positioning, including the OpenEdge Reference Architecture and Application Transformation.

* Architects and articulates a vision of where a Progress solution fits into a prospect’s/customer’s architecture and how it will address their pain and add business value.

*Explains to prospects/customers the business value of the OpenEdge Reference Architecture and Application Transformation and the technical roadmap for implementation. Interactively presents/demonstrates the techniques of OERA and Application Transformation.

*Explains to customers the Progress Professional Services and Education offerings and how these can increase customer efficiency, productivity, and project success. Helps smooth the transition to Services.

*Identifies integration solutions opportunities among customers and articulates optimal solution for customer.

* Demonstrates Progress products.

*Delivers “Proof of Concept” demonstrations.

*Provides Pre-Sales (Technical Account management) related account management for nominated accounts.

*Responds to technical questionnaires, RFPs, and RFIs, architecture and implementation inquiries.

*Performs Pre-Sales Support Desk activities.

*Participates in limited prototyping, training, and consultancy.

*Follows through on existing accounts after the Pre-Sales cycle until the customer application is fully deployed. Coordinates the Pre-Sales effort with technical support/implementation assignments.

* Works closely with Sales Executives and Consulting personnel in a complex, enterprise sales environment.

*Has command of solution-selling discipline in order to interact effectively with the Sales force and meet forecasting demands

*Translates customer requirements into design deliverables and participates in design review, verification, and validation activities.

*Qualifies Consulting leads and develops a ¡§solution vision¡¨ with the prospect/customer.

*Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the following:

-Positioning Progress products in the market
-Building competitive applications using the OpenEdge Reference Architecture
-Identifying Application Transformation opportunities, requirements, and steps
-Effectively using Progress products for demonstrations and prototyping
-Providing product configurations for all versions
-General competitive product information
-Progress Sales policies and procedures
-Current IT industry trends and standards
-Awareness of list pricing

Qualifications
* 5+ years of pre-sale Systems Engineering experience.

*At least 3 years experience architecting and developing applications.

*Experience and demonstrated ability in selling products and implementing systems solutions. Training experience a plus.
