_dbutil.exe?

What exactly does this do? We have multiple Progress DB test servers and when you RDP to the server an error pops up saying there was a problem with the _dbutil.exe and should we like to report this?

If you cancel out of it multiple times, it goes away, and the system seems to run normally.

Anything we should be terrified about?

When any app or service errors out, WS logs the event. By default, when an administrator loggs in, these are presented, one at a time as you have seen.

You can right click on My Computer > Manage > Event Viewer > Application and see the events generating the messages. Often, there is additional information in the Description: field and sometines, a web link for more.

Something on your system is running _dbutil.exe, which is often called from a batch file (prorest.bat and probkup.bat are two examples). Perhaps via a scheduled task - pre-task to a backup job - something in a startup folder.

Happy hunting!
